Thamarassery: Panchayat member’s kids came up with an idea after police began bothering their neighbours asking for the member’s house in cases related to the protest against Fresh Cut waste disposal plant. They have placed signboards, meant for the police personnel, directing them straight to their house. In one of the boards, they have also requested the police not to bother the neighbours.

The boards were put up by Thamarassery panchayat member Shamsitha Shafi’s children in front of their house as well as on the road. “Do not bother the neighbours, the member’s house is the first one on the right”, read the board. Besides, another board saying, “this is our house”, has also been placed in front of their house. Shamsitha Shafi’s daughter Fathima Shifa said that they decided to place the boards as the police have been ruining the neighbours’ sleep asking for the member’s house day and night.

Meanwhile, Shamsitha has been staying away, along with her husband Muhammad Shafi, for the last 11 days after the police have included her name in the list of accused in the Fresh Cut protest case. Now, their children, Fathima Shifa, Shalima Azmi and Muhammad Shasil are at the house with their grandmother Suhara.

Meanwhile, Fathima doesn’t understand why the police personnel who came to their house at 12.15 am the other day had again knocked at the neighbour’s door at 12.20 am asking for the member’s house.

The youngest kid had gone to school for only two days after the protest took place. The children often become helpless in front of the police who question them about the whereabouts of their mother. Meanwhile, Thamarassery panchayat vice president Sauda Beevi posted a note on her social media page addressing the boards placed by her colleague’s children in front of her house.

She lauded Shamsitha for courageously leading the protest, upholding the people’s trust and also for showing how an elected representative should be. Shamsitha Shafi is named second in the list of accused prepared by the police in the cases related to the unrest in the protest march against Fresh Cut chicken waste disposal plant.
