Kochi: A video posted by a UAE national praising the services of the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has been gaining significant attention on social media.

Ahmed Ali Mattar, a Dubai resident, is known for taking his favourite car — a Ford Mustang — with him wherever he travels. During a recent visit to Kerala to meet his friends, he shipped the vehicle from Dubai to the state. But upon its arrival, Indian Customs officials informed him that he would need to pay road tax for the three-month stay.

Subsequently, the Dubai native approached the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Kakkanad in Kochi, where he met Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI) Vinod Kumar. By paying the road tax amounting to ₹34,000, Ahmed cleared the legal hurdle in driving his much-loved vehicle on Indian roads.

In the video he posted on social media, Ahmed explained how the authorities at MVD’s Kakkanad office, including Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Biju Isaac, helped him in completing the procedures.
