Alappuzha: Heightened surveillance has been introduced along the Kollam–Theni National Highway and KP Road, with Motor Vehicle Department officials using cameras to monitor traffic. Both uniformed and plainclothes officers have been deployed since Tuesday to act immediately against violations such as illegal racing among private buses, quarrels between crew members, unauthorised halts and other offences.
Several violations were recorded on camera on the very first day, prompting quick action. Officials have been posted at major junctions and bus stops along KP Road. Action has been taken against both KSRTC and private buses for speeding, jumping signals at Charummoodu Junction, causing traffic blocks, and inconveniencing passengers by failing to stop at designated points.
The drive also targets speeding vehicles at locations other than junctions, as well as motorcycles and cars generating excessive noise. Vehicles are being traced and detained with police assistance once registration numbers are recorded.
The initiative aims to make the Kollam–Theni Highway and KP Road safer and accident-free. Vehicles found without valid documents will also be seized and handed over to the respective police stations.
The intensive enforcement campaign will continue under the supervision of Mavelikkara Joint RTO M G Manoj, running three to four days a week.
