Adattu: Remani Vasudevan who sang the prayer song at an election meeting in Adattu was surprised and happy when former KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala felicitated her. Adattu native Remani has been a loyal worker of the Congress Party for the last 35 years. The unexpected honour from the senior leader was a moment of pride and joy for Remani.

Although she isn’t formally trained in music, Remani has been singing, especially the prayer songs, at the party meetings held at Adattu for years. The memory of singing in front of leader K Karunakaran at an event in Thrissur and getting appreciation from him is still fresh in her mind.

She had sung the Saraswathi shloka in Sanskrit then, impressing the Congress leader. It would be Remani who would sing the prayer verses at all the meetings and events presided by Ramesh Chennithala and former chief minister Oommen Chandy in Thrissur.

She is the district general secretary of Dalit Congress and member of the district advisory committee of Mahila Congress. Remani has also won prizes in ‘Nammal Mahila Congress’, the state wide singing contest of the women’s wing of the party.

Out of sheer love for music, Remani, at the age of 65, has enrolled herself at the Sreekrishnarpanam music school in Adattu. Remani who has not contested in any elections yet, often works as the election agent of candidates. She also speaks at the campaign meetings held at all the junctions during the election season.
