Thrissur: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Tuesday arrested the owner of a two-wheeler parked at the Wadakkanchery railway station after receiving a tip-off about a fuel leakage from the vehicle. RPF personnel rushed to the spot, found petrol leaking from the bike and turned off the knob. A case has been registered under Section 154 (endangering safety by rash or negligent acts) of the Indian Railways Act and the vehicle was seized.

Meanwhile, the Railways have initiated a detailed fire safety audit of parking areas, to be carried out jointly by the Commercial and Electrical departments, to enhance safety and prevent similar incidents. Vehicle owners have been advised to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and strictly follow safety norms while parking on railway premises.

The arrest comes two days after a massive fire gutted more than 500 motorbikes at the Thrissur Railway Station on Sunday. The fire erupted in the two-wheeler parking area near the rear entrance of the station.
