Former Indian cricket captain Ajit Wadekar dies

Mumbai: Former Indian cricket captain Ajit Wadekar died on Wednesday night. He was 77.
The Mumbaikar led India to the first-ever overseas Test series victories in West Indies and England in 1971. He had represented the country in 37 Tests. He also coached the Indian team in the 90s and formed a very successful partnership with Mohammad Azharuddin at the helm.
The aggressive batsman was a trailblazer in Indian cricket. Wadekar scored 2,113 runs in his Test career, including one hundred. He was also India's first ODI captain, although he appeared in just two matches. He later went on to become the chairman of selectors as well.
He is survived by his wife Rekha, two sons and a daughter.
