Former Kerala cricketer Kerala Varma Kelappan Thampuran passed away on Saturday morning. He was 96.

Kelappan Thampuran faced the first ball of Pooja Knockout Cricket Tournament held at Palace Oval, Thrippunithura, in 1951, considered as the first limited overs match in the world.

Former Kerala player and reputed coach P Balachandran is his son.
