Bengaluru City police have denied permission to host a Vijay Hazare Trophy match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on December 24. The Karnataka State Cricket Association had sought permission to host the match without spectators.

The popular venue has not hosted cricket matches since a stampede outside the stadium on June 4, which left 11 dead. Fans had turned up in great numbers to participate in RCB's IPL-winning celebrations.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said permission was denied for the Vijay Hazare match based on a detailed report from a committee set up on the instructions of the Home Department.

"There may be some confusion among you (media), whether there is permission to hold a cricket match or not. There is no need for confusion. As you are aware, our committee went there yesterday. Based on the committee's recommendation, permission has been rejected. So there is no match there tomorrow," Singh told reporters.

Recently, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar claimed that he “will not allow IPL matches to be shifted out of Chinnaswamy stadium”.

Vijay Hazare Trophy is a domestic 50-over tournament featuring state teams. The Chinnaswamy Stadium was scheduled to host Andhra and Delhi in an Elite Group D match on December 24.
