Kerala Blasters have roped in Portuguese Nelo Vingada as their head coach following the departure of David James.

Vingada has managed the national teams of Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Malaysia. He also had a stint as the coach of Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United in the 2016-17 season.

The 67-year-old has also been the assistant coach of Iran national team and top Portuguese club Benfica.

James parted ways with the Yellow Army last month after Blasters could only garner nine points from 12 matches in the current ISL season. Blasters are languishing at the eighth spot in the 10-team ISL and take on ATK in Kochi as the competition resumes on January 25 after a break for the ongoing Asian Cup.

Blasters have only six games, including two home fixtures, remaining and their play-off hopes are almost over.
