Kochi: Fedor Cernych had around 7,000 followers on Instagram before he joined Kerala Blasters at the beginning of the January transfer window to replace the injured Adrian Luna. Soon after the news of Cernych's arrival to Kochi was announced by the club via social media, the Lithuanian's follower count witnessed a meteoric rise, and within hours of the transfer news breaking, he became one of the most followed Instagram accounts in his country.

"It felt amazing. At the same time, I realized that my first stint in Asia would be a challenging one," said the 32-year-old Cernych, who scored against FC Goa to complete a remarkable comeback for Kerala Blasters in their last home match.

How did you feel when you scored the first goal in Blasters colours?

I was delighted. However, I know it is my job to score goals. If I'm not able to score, I should be creating scoring opportunities. It doesn’t matter who scored the goals. Teamwork is a fundamental part of football. Each team member has a role in creating chances of scoring and winning a match.

What is your favourite position?

I have played in almost every position; I've been a left-back, right-back, and a central midfielder. Each coach is different in their approach and style. They have different strategies for a player and know to use someone in a position that leverages his strengths. I'm ready to play and work hard in any position. That is why I don’t have a favoured position!

Who is your favourite footballer?

I idolise Brazil's Ronaldo. However, my style of play is different.

How did you feel when your Instagram follower count surged from 7,000 to over 2,00,000 within hours of the transfer news breaking?

To be honest, it was unreal. I was shocked to see the massive surge of followers. I was not active on Instagram. Now I will be posting regularly to acknowledge their unflinching support. I am also keen to do my best and give them some 'unique gifts' (on the field) to honour their loyalty and love.
