Norwegian Super GM Magnus Carlsen showed again why he's the best in the world with a dominant performance to take the title of Tata Steel Chess India rapid tournament in Kolkata on Friday.

Carlsen finished unbeaten in the nine-round rapid event, accumulating 7.5 points. He finished 2 points clear of second-placed R Praggnanandhaa.

After drawing his opening two rounds on Wednesday, Carlsen won the next six and finished with a draw against Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov.

Nihal Sarin and S L Narayanan, two Keralites in the 10-man field, finished with four and three points respectively. In round eight, the face-off between the two strongest players in Kerala ended in a 30-move draw.

In the women's rapid event, GM Aleksandra Goryachkina emerged champion. The Russian dominated the 10-player field, comprising five Indians, to secure 7.5 points from nine rounds. Georgian GM Nana Dzagnidze (5.5) and Indian IM Vantika Agrawal (5) finished second and third respectively.
