Kerala created history by clinching the Senior Men's Handball National Championship in Changanassery. The hosts defeated Chandigarh 34-31 in the final to emerge champions.

Kerala had defeated Services in the semifinals, while Chandigarh got the better of Indian Railways in the other semifinals. The two losing semifinalists shared bronze.

Kerala's Devender and Rahul were adjudged the best player and best goalkeeper of the championship respectively. Sujith was declared the best left-wing player.
