Taj Mahal

Built by Mughal emperor Shahjahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1632 , this mausoleum on the banks of river Yamuna in Agra is a sight to behold. An epitome of love, this marvel in white marble is a tomb situated in a 17-hectare complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens on three sides. The Taj Mahal is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983 for being "the jewel of Muslim art in India”.

It is also one of the universally admired masterpieces of world heritage. The Agra fort and Fetehpur Sikri are also amazing monuments that echo the rich Mughal history. Other places to visit in Agra are the Sikandara, Aram Bagh, Khas Mahal, Panch Mahal and the Agra Art Gallery.

Fatehpur Sikri, which was built in the 16th century city by Mughal emperor Akbar. is famous for its breathtaking architecture. The palaces found here reflect the architectural brilliance of the bygone era.

The top spots to visit here include the Panch Mahal,Diwan-i-Khas, Buland Darwaza, Johbhai Palace and the Lotus Throne.

Lucknow

Also known as the city of Nawabs, Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. The city’s architectural marvel can easily teleport you to an ancient world. As it was also the capital of Nawabs of Awadh, and the city flourished in its music, literature, arts and crafts. The major spots of attraction in Lucknow include the British Residency, Chhota Imambara, Lucknow Zoo, Dr. Ambedkar Park, Hazratganj and the Constantia House.

Varanasi

The religious capital of India, Varanasi is a hub of pilgrims. Considered as one of the seven holy spots in Hinduism, the land also attracts people from other faiths. The mighty Ganges add to the pious atmosphere of Varanasi. Visit the river Ganges, Kashi Vishwanath temple, Sarnath, Manikarnika Ghat, Archaeological Museum and the Banaras Ghats if you ever make a trip to Varanasi.

Allahabad

Allahabad is the place where Lord Brahma landed on earth. The city is located at the confluence of three rivers, viz., Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswathi. Also called as Prayag, the city witnesses one of the largest religious gathering called the Kumbh Mela once in every 12 years. The Triveni Sangam (the meeting place of three rivers) is a must-see spot here. You may also visit the Khusro Bagh, Allahabad Museum, Allahabad Fort and Patalpuri

Mathura

Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, is one of the seven sacred cities for followers of Hinduism. The ancient town houses so many temples. built in different periods in history. Before Hinduism rose to prominence, it was a Buddhist center and was home to 20 monasteries. Visit the Krishna Janma Bhoomi Mandir, Jama Masjid, Dwarkadhish Temple, Kusum Sarovar, Radha Kund and the Kans Qila if you are at Mathura by any chance.
