Kadalundi: The Kadalundi-Vallikkunnu community reserve ecotourism centre has received a new look with a boat landing and a rest room. While the boat landing has been set up by National Institute for Research and Development in Defence Shipbuilding (NIRDESHI), the rest room is the contribution of Canara Bank.

The infrastructure at the community reserve got a boost after the area, which is rich in biodiversity, was notified as an ecotourism centre. The area around the reserve office, which is right beside the Kadalundi River, has been beautified with interlocking tiles, walkway, seating for travellers, and wash rooms.

The protective wall along the river bank has been rebuilt to prevent water from flowing into the office premises during high tide. These developmental works have been carried out by NIRDESH and Canara Bank under the aegis of the forest department to attract more tourists to the area, which flaunts a bird sanctuary and mangrove forest.

In addition, a boat service is offered under the eco-friendly tourism project managed by the panchayat. Another plan on the anvil is the construction of a nature walkway along the banks of the Kadalundi river. The walkway will extend 1.10 km from the community office premises to the Kadalundikadavu Bridge.

Private operators are also offering tourism boat services, home stay facilities, and running restaurants in the area.
