The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) in Thrissur has made arrangements for the Nalambalam pilgrimage held every year during the Malayalam month of Karkidakom. Care has been taken by the district administration to ensure that devotees, especially senior citizens, taking part in the pilgrimage face no hassles. A nominal fee of Rs 600 will be charged from the pilgrims.
According to belief, offering prayers at the four temples (Nalambalam) dedicated to the four sons of king Dasharatha – Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna – would help devotees tide over the difficulties of Karkidakom.

The pilgrimage starts from the Sree Rama Temple at Thriprayar, and continues to Koodalmanikayam Temple at Irinjalakkuda, Lakshmana Perumal Temple at Thirumoozhikkulam and Shatrughna Temple at Payammal. When the devotees return to the Thriprayar Temple from the Payammal Temple and pray there, the pilgrimage is considered to be completed.

During the travel between the four temples, programmes like quiz and narrating mythological stories have been arranged. An air-conditioned vehicle will be deployed for the trip. A sumptuous meal, the prasadam of Thriprayar temple, a kit of Karkidaka kanji and Malayalam panchangam will be given to the pilgrims as part of the package.

According to N Ravichandran, the GM of DTPC, all the devotees who took part in the pilgrimage have expressed full satisfaction. DTPC has already conducted over 100 Nalambalam trips so far since it started the arrangement four years ago. Over 3,000 devotees have utilized the DTPC facility.
