Misty Idukki enjoys a 'freezing' climate

Marayur: The charming mist has revived the tourism sector which had experienced a lull in the Anjunadu area. The roads and bridges at Periyavarai, which is the entrance to Marayur and Kanthalloor, were washed away in the August floods and this had severely affected the tourism. Tourists began to pour in again after the roads were rebuilt and the weather recently became incredibly charming.

Sweet winter fruits, orchards, vegetable gardens, sandalwood forests, beautiful wild life and enchanting woods and sugar cane fields, the historic Muniyara Dolmens and pristine waterfalls are some of the most amazing tourist attractions in Anjunadu. These areas will be covered in a blanket of thick mist and snow during the months of January and February. The temperature at Kanthalloor, which lies 5500 ft above the sea level, would usually drop down to 5-0°C, and up to 10-5°C at Marayur.

Weather alert!

Thick mist has been reported at Kanthalloor, Thalayar and 8th mile areas along the Marayur-Munnar road. Extreme weather has been reported from Anakottu Park to Perumala Anamudy Chola National Park in the Marayur-Kantalloor road. Motorists should be alert while overtaking other vehicles. Wild animals, too, could roam astray on the road due to mist.

Kerala chilled on New Year's Eve

Pathanamthitta: Kerala covered itself under the blankets even as it celebrated New Year on a grand note. Among the levelled areas, Kottayam recorded the lowest temperature of 19°C. It was 20-21°C at Pathanamthitta and Sabarimala. However, the temperature at the high-range places, including Munnar, dropped to as low as 3°C.

As the rain clouds subsided, the mist made its way to make Kerala shiver. There were showers until the day before Christmas. Meanwhile it is observed that the clouds formed over the Andaman coasts wouldn't cause heavy rains in Kerala.

Punalur, Alappuzha, Thrissur: 21°C

In the meantime, the 34°C recorded at Kozhikode was the highest.

Frost in Munnar

The temperature in Munnar has dropped down below 0°C. Minus 2°C was recorded at the valley of Meesapulimala which is 20 kilometres away from Munnar. The meadows and hills are covered in the pristine white sheet of frost due to which tourists are pouring in.
