Dropping temperatures make Wayanad as cold as Ooty

Wayanadu is shivering in the cold wave that was recently felt across the state. Temperatures have plunged to record levels in the district in the last 3 days. On the new year's eve, the temperature dropped as low as 8°C. It was 10.5°C in the last days of December last year.

The weather has been freezing cold, especially in the nights, since the new year. Last Wednesday, 8.5°C was recorded as the lowest. It is reported that dropping temperatures in Wayanadu have created a weather similar to that of Ooty, a popular tourist destination known for its chilly climate.

Temperature rises with significant amount of atmospheric humidity during noontime and drops by 7 in the evening. It gets freezing cold during the early morning as well. The number of tourists reaching Wayanad to enjoy the climate has gone up significantly. Hundreds of visitors throng the viewpoint at the Lakkidy mountain pass and Kurumbolakotta to enjoy the beautiful morning mist. Usually, the temperatures drop by the beginning of December. However, this time, the weather began to change a bit late. But it has dropped to record levels forcing the district to snuggle under layers of blankets.
