Residency visa holders who stayed outside UAE (United Arab Emirates) for more than six months can now apply for a re-entry permit.

According to a report in the Khaleej Times, the update is part of a string of recent changes made to UAE's visa and residency system.

Previously, residency was cancelled automatically after 180 days of a person staying outside the Emirates. Only Golden Visa holders had the option of remaining abroad for longer periods without it affecting their residency status.

However, now the residents can avail the re-entry permit by specifying the reason for their prolonged stay outside the Emirates supported by relevant documents.

The service is reportedly available on the ICP website. An applicant will be allowed permit to re-enter on receiving a confirmation email, the Times reported.
