Heavy rain: Gavi closed for tourists, Orange alert in Pathanamthitta

Due to heavy rains, the Forest Department has closed the Gavi Eco Tourism facility in Pathanamthitta for tourists. An orange alert, which indicates very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours, is in place in the district.

The National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in Pathanamthitta, alongside six other districts of the State. 

Safety experts advice tourists to heed to the warnings, avoid water-related activities like swimming, fishing and boating. Tourists are also advised to avoid travelling in the night time, especially to hilly regions of the State.
