Trial run of Kerala's first double-decker train on Pollachi-Palakkad route successful

The trial run of the train was conducted jointly by the southern railways' Salem and Palakkad divisions.

Palakkad: The trial run of Kerala's maiden double-decker train was conducted on the Pollachi-Palakkad route on Wednesday.

The trial run precedes the launch of the Bengaluru-Coimbatore Uday Double-Decker Superfast Train, intended to address the shortage of trains on the electrified route.

The trial run started at 8 am from Coimbatore and arrived at Palakkad Junction at 11:05 am before entering the Palakkad Town Railway Station at 11:25 am.

On its return, the train reached Palakkad Junction at 11:50 am and left for Coimbatore 10 minutes later. It arrived at Coimbatore at 2:30 pm.

This AC chair car is part of the inaugural Double-Decker Express series of the Indian Railways. The train timings are yet to be finalised. The trial run was jointly conducted by the Salem and Palakkad divisions.
