Chennai: The train tickets to Kerala have been selling like hotcakes as soon as the railways opened the booking window for the Diwali season. You could book tickets until October 30 today; Diwali falls on October 31. As Diwali falls on a Thursday this year, parents hope that the schools will be closed until Sunday. So, most Malayalis are looking to plan their journey home on October 29 or 30. Meanwhile, some haven’t decided to travel to Kerala for Diwali as the long Navratri holidays are in the second week of October. Most trains that run in Tamil Nadu are fully booked for the season. The tickets were sold out within hours as most people travel to their hometowns for Diwali, the biggest festival in the state. Last year, special fare one-way Deepavali trains were announced by the railways in November.
