Thiruvananthapuram: In a move that could immensely benefit travellers from Kerala, the Railway Board is considering a proposal to allot two Vande Bharat sleeper trains to the state. The proposed services are, Kochuveli - Bengaluru and Kanyakumari - Srinagar.

The Srinagar Vande Bharat will take the Konkan route and is expected to conduct services thrice a week till Budgam station, which is near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. This service could be launched after the commissioning of the Udhampur – Srinagar - Baramulla railway track in December this year.

Construction of the Vande Bharat sleeper coaches is currently underway at Bharat Earth Movers Limited’s (BEML) factory in Bengaluru and work on 10 rakes will be completed by December, said authorities. Similar to Rajdhani Express trains, all compartments of Vande Bharat sleeper trains would be air-conditioned.
