Just as Rajinikanth's latest film, Vettaiyan, hits theatres, the picturesque spot of Kanyakumari in South India is also getting attention from travel enthusiasts again for the second time this year. Previously, many wanted to understand why PM Modi chose the Vivekananda Rock here as his pre-election meditation spot. In Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth's character is a cop who works in Kanyakumari, a coastal district in the southernmost tip of India. The film also features Kanyakumari's iconic Thiruvalluvar statue, with many interesting specialities that fascinate travel and history enthusiasts. The 133-foot statue is a tribute to the 133 chapters of Thirukkural, a Tamil text authored by Thiruvalluvar, who is considered a poet, philosopher and saint in the state. The granite sculpture is also situated near the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Here are a few other reasons why you should give the Thiruvalluvar statue and Kanyakumari a visit this time of the year:

1) The statue is set on a rock island in Kanyakumari, where tourists can enjoy breathtaking views of the convergence of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea. The serene environment of the statue is also a favourite meditation spot for many. The intricately carved sculpture and its scenic location also offer many people opportunities for photography.
2) Kanyakumari also houses many naturally beautiful, culturally and spiritually rich locations. The Sunrise and Sunset Views, the various beaches, Gandhi Memorial, Suchindram Temple, Cape Comorin, and the local beaches are a few to mention.
3) It is well-connected by rail, air, road, and water, making it easily accessible to international and domestic tourists.

4) Its tropical climate also makes it conducive for tourism throughout the year. Regardless, October to March is the best time to visit as the weather is at its pleasant best during this time.
5) As Kanyakumari has both Tamil and Kerala cultural influences, you can easily try various seafood options, rice-based options like appam, puttu, idiyappam, paal payasam, Kerala sadya, numerous coconut-based dishes and sweets here.
