Karkidaka Kanji is Kerala’s traditional Ayurvedic porridge, consumed during the monsoon month of Karkidakam to boost immunity and aid digestion. Made with Njavara rice, green gram, fenugreek, dry ginger, cumin, and a special herbal mix, it’s finished with coconut milk and a final seasoning of ghee, garlic, and shallots.

This age-old wellness recipe is best had on an empty stomach and continues to be a staple in many Kerala homes during the rainy season.
