The Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET) held to assess the quality of candidates for appointment as teachers in schools recognized by the State General Education Department will be conducted on May 12.

The tests are conducted by Pareeksha Bhavan for four categories: Lower Primary, Upper Primary, High School, and Language Teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu – up to UP level) as well as Specialist (Art & Craft, Sports).

Interested candidates can submit online applications from April 3 to 17. Only a single application needs to be submitted by a candidate even if he/she wants to appear for examinations of more than one category. However, they have to remit a fee of Rs 500 for each category. Those belonging to Scheduled Caste/Tribe and Differently Abled categories need to pay Rs 250.

Test dates

The Category-1 test will be held from 10 am to 12 noon, and Category-2 from 2 pm to 4.30 pm on May 12. The Category 3 examination will be held from 10 am to 12 noon on May 15 and the Category 4 exam from 2 pm to 4.30 pm on the same day.

Test pattern

The syllabus can be obtained from www.ktet.kerala.gov.in.

The questions of subjects for categories 1, 2 and 4, except that relating to languages, will be given both in English and Malayalam. However, for category 3, the questions, except that relating to languages, will be in English only.

The candidates have to answer 150 multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes in each of the categories. There are no negative marks for wrong answers. The answers will have to be marked on OMR answer sheets.

A candidate has to secure a minimum of 60 percent marks in the qualifying exam. However, those belonging to Scheduled Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Class categories need to obtain only 55% and the Different Abled only 50 %. There are no age restrictions prescribed for the applicants. A candidate can’t re-appear for the test in a category in which one has already passed.

Check prospectus

The details of the minimum qualification required for applying to each category are given in the prospectus. The guidelines for submitting applications are given on pages numbers 18 to 21 of the prospectus. The applicants need to show their place of preference for the test in the applications and can’t apply to more than one district.

Candidates can submit online applications, pay fees and take application printouts from April 3 to 17. The printouts should be kept in safe custody as the number given in it is required for downloading hall tickets, which can be done on April 25. There is no need to send by post the printouts of the applications, the certificates, or copies by post.

Applicants should note that K-TET qualification would not guarantee appointment as teacher.
