Thiruvananthapuram: The application process for admission to Plus One classes in Higher Secondary Schools across Kerala for the 2025–26 academic year began on May 14. Students can submit their applications online through a unified single-window system until May 20.

Applicants can opt for multiple schools and subject combinations within a single revenue district using just one application. Admission is based on Weighted Grade Point Average (WGPA) from SSLC or equivalent examinations. Those who passed CBSE Class 10 with ‘Mathematics Standard’ can apply for subject combinations that include mathematics.

However, students who studied through open school systems or obtained equivalency through non-formal modes and possess a certificate from the Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan should apply through the SCOLE-Kerala stream, not via this process.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants should be between 15 and 20 years of age as of June 1, 2025.
  • The upper age limit is relaxed to 22 for SC/ST students and up to 25 for visually/hearing impaired or intellectually challenged students.
  • Candidates who passed the Kerala board exam are exempt from the minimum age requirement.
  • For students from other boards, a relaxation of up to six months on either side may be granted by the Director of General Education or the respective Regional Deputy Director.

How to apply

  • Applications should be submitted only via the official portal https://hscap.kerala.gov.in
  • Candidates must create a login using the 'CREATE CANDIDATE LOGIN – SWS' link and verify their identity using OTP.  All application procedures – including form submission, fee payment, and option selection – must be done through this login.
  • The application fee is ₹25 and should be paid at the time of admission, not during online submission.
  • No certificates need to be uploaded except for select categories, such as differently abled students or those under 'Other' scheme (Code 7).
  • Applicants may submit only one application per district under the merit quota. Those applying to multiple districts must submit separate applications.
  • Students needing help may use the computer labs and assistance provided at government/aided higher secondary schools. Help desks have been set up across schools for guidance.

Option selection

Students may indicate up to 50 school–subject combinations (options) in order of preference. One option comprises a specific subject combination at a specific school. Detailed lists of subject combinations and course codes are available in the prospectus. Candidates are advised to list only genuinely preferred options, as admission will be strictly based on the order of preferences submitted.

Once admitted to a lower preference, all options below it will be automatically cancelled. However, higher preferences will remain active. Students may later cancel these higher options if desired.

Allotment process

  • A trial allotment will be published on May 24 to help applicants identify any errors. Corrections can be made after this.
  • Candidates dissatisfied with their allotment may choose temporary admission by submitting documents to the school without paying fees, and wait for better allotments.
  • Permanent admission requires fee payment and document verification. If admitted students fail to report within the stipulated time, their admission will be cancelled and they will not be considered in future rounds.
  • If a student receives allotments in multiple districts, admission in one district will lead to automatic cancellation of all other district options.

Separate applications for management, vocational streams
For admission to management, community, unaided, and quota seats in aided schools, applicants must apply directly using forms issued by the respective school managements. These seats are not covered under the government’s single-window system.

Vocational Higher Secondary School (VHSS) applicants must visit www.admission.dge.kerala.gov.in and click the “Higher Secondary (Vocational) Admission” link. The schedule and conditions are similar to Plus One general admissions.

Admissions to model residential higher secondary schools under SC/ST development departments will follow the same schedule. A separate notification will be issued for these schools.
