KSRTC remodels bus for drivers to rest and sleep at Cochin airport

Sleeper bus for drivers

Perumbavoor: An air-conditioned sleeper bus is being prepared for KSRTC drivers who take passengers from the Kochi International Airport, to rest and sleep.

A 10-year-old bus is being redesigned at the Perumbavoor KSRTC depot to make the first staff sleeper bus in the district.

It can accommodate 16 people in two tiers. The bus has air-conditioning, a dining table for four people, wash basin, fan, lights and lockers for 16 people.

Many KSRTC drivers have been based at the airport for months to transport passengers coming from abroad as part of the Vande Bharat Mission. They have to spend 12 to 16 hours outside the airport.

The sleeper bus is being readied in response to complaints that there isn’t any provision for them to take sufficient rest.

The work on the first sleeper staff bus in the district started at a regional workshop in Aluva. However, since it fell under a containment zone, the work was shifted to Perumbavoor, said Isaac Mathew, works manager.
