Three children, belonging to a family drowned in a pond in Kanhangad here on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Basheer (4), son of Nooruddin, Ajnas (5) son of Nasser and Mohammed Mishab (6) son of Samir, all residents of Bavanagar, Kanhangad. All three boys were cousins.

When all the three kids did not return home at the time for breaking the Ramadan fast, parents started to search for them. They found all the three in the nearby pond at around 7:00 pm. Though all the three were immediately rushed to the hospital, their lives could not be saved.

According to sources, Basheer, Ajnas, and Mishab had gone to a nearby pond to play on Thursday. Police suspected that they might have moved to the deeper side of the pond while playing and drowned.

The bodies have been sent to the hospital for post-mortem. Ajnas and Mohammed Mishab were UKG students of the PPTS LP School, Kadapuram.
