Ettumanoor, Kottayam: It was a proud moment for the Kottayam Medical College Hospital as 98-year-old Lakshmi Damodaran walked out after recovering from COVID-19.

Lakshmi Damodaran, a native of Punnathara West, is the oldest person in the district to have tested positive for COVID-19. Lakshmi lives with her granddaughter Usha.

Usha's husband Hari, an agricultural assistant at Changanassery, tested positive for COVID-19 on August 7. Soon, the infection was confirmed in Lakshmi, Usha, and Usha's daughter too.

They were then shifted to the COVID centre at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Usha and her daughter recovered first. But only the daughter returned home. Usha stayed back to care for the elderly woman.

Their neighbour and municipal member N V Bineesh took Usha and Lakshmi home on Friday.

Earlier, 93-year-old Ranni native Thomas Abraham and his wife 88-year-old Mariyamma had been cured of the illness at the Kottayam hospital.
