Lottery vendor attacked, money stolen at Kottayam

Nedumkunnam: A 50-year-old lottery ticket seller was attacked and his money stolen by two bike-borne assailants at Nedumkunnam in Kottayam district on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as T Mohanan, a native of Nedumkunnam. The assailants stole his bag that had Rs 1,500 and lottery tickets worth Rs 8,000.

The incident happened near Nedumkunnam government high school along the Karukachal-Manimala road by 3.30pm on Tuesday.

While Mohan was walking along the road, the assailants came towards him. After asking him, "What did you tell my sister?", they pushed him down. They also got hold of his bag that contained the money and lottery tickets.

The bag had 10 bumper tickets, worth Rs 300 each, and 125 Akshaya lottery tickets, worth Rs 40, and Rs 1500 in cash.

Mohanan, who suffered injuries, sought treatment at a private hospital at Nedumkunnam.

Mohanan said that the bike rider appeared to be around 40 years old, while the pillion rider looked to be around 25 years old.

A complaint has been filed with the Karukachal police. The police have collected the CCTV visuals from the nearby shop. The bike number has been identified. The accused are likely to be caught soon.

Mohanan's bag was stolen from him near the Karukachal beverages outlet last year by a gang. The police had nabbed the culprits, Mammood natives, in that case.
