Kottayam: The body of murder accused Mohammad Sadiq alias Salim of Arpookara Panambalam in Kadalikala, who died by suicide in Saudi, was cremated.
Sadiq was living in Saudi Arabia on a fake address and under a fake name Ashraf belonging to Ayathil in Kollam district. He was the first accused in the murder of a woman belonging to Thodupuzha.
According to the information received by police, after being released on bail he escaped and reached Saudi on a fake address. He was engaged in painting work there.
Sadiq's body was brought to his native place from Saudi and postmortem was conducted at the medical college under the supervision of police. After ascertaining the identity of hte victim, the police handed over the body to his relatives. With his death, the police will file a closure report before the court to end further proceedings in the case.
The case details; The body of Siji, 24, of Karingkunnam in Thodupuzha who had come to medical college hospital for the treatment of her mother, was found dead near Cheeyappara on July 29, 2014.
Sadiq who feigned a relationship with Siji, took her to Cheeyappra on the pretext of having a registered marriage with the help of three of his friends. Later in the night the woman was strangled to death
The accused after robbing Siji of 15.5 sovereigns of gold and Rs 16,000 cash, dumped her body in an isolated place and fled from the scene. With the police not able to trace Mohammad Sadiq, the court went ahead with the trial of the rest of the accused and sentenced them.
The local people came across the report regarding Kollam Ayyathil Ashraf's death by suicide in news papers and on seeing the photograph of Sadiq they became suspiricous and informed the poilce about the entire incident. The police carried out a detailed probe and found that Ashraf was the fake name used by Sadiq while living in Saudi Arabia.
