Koratty (Thrissur): The police were in for a huge surprise when they tried to stop a young couple on a high-end motorbike for breaking the COVID-19 triggered lockdown restrictions.
When the youth, who was riding the two-wheeler, was later traced with the help of the vehicle registration number, the police were taken aback when he revealed that the girl who was with him was his wife and they were returning home after their 'marriage' had been solemnized on ‘Tik Tok’, a video-sharing social network service.
Circle Inspector BK Arun and team were on the lookout for any vehicles violating the lockdown curbs on national highway near here, when they found this duo coming on bike. The couple sped away when the police signalled to stop the motorbike but the youth was traced with the help of cyber police.
Later, the police summoned the young man to the police station but he tried to hoodwink the personnel by asking his friend to appear before the officers. The youth's friend came to the police station by wearing the shirt the young man was wearing while riding the motorbike. But the friend buckled under police questioning, and the youth was tracked down.
The youngster told the police that he got acquainted with the girl, who was studying nursing in Bengaluru, through 'Tik Tok’ and they decided to get married, and waited till he attained marriageable age.
As the ‘Tik Tok’ marriages were going viral on social media, the couple decided to tie the knot on that platform. They exchanged garlands in front of a church, which comes under the jurisdiction of Koratty police station. They made sure that the ‘wedding’ was filmed and posted the video on ‘Tik Tok’. The duo saw the police team when they were returning home after the ‘wedding’. The lad was let off with a stern warning after the parents were summoned to the police station.
