Director Ranjith Sankar itching for retirement
With a gleaming smile, Ranjith Sankar admitted that he always thinks of a time when he is no more making any movies.

Director Ranjith Sankar hardly needs an introduction. Each of his movies, starting from his first 'Passenger' which came out in 2009, till the last 'Njan Marykutty (2018,) were grant successes. A filmmaker known for portraying wellrealistic elements in his movies, Sankar has handled some exotic topics like gender liberation, mentalism and rehabilitation of transsexuals in his movies.

Reluctant to sit back watching the success of 'Njan Marykutty,' Sankar is already gearing up with the production schedule of his next 'Pretham 2,' which is scheduled to be a Christmas release.

Onmanorama caught up with this busy filmmaker to ask just one question: “You started your career as a software engineer. At the peak of your profession, you left it for an entirely different passion, which was cinema. With more than 10 hit movies in your profile, you are already at the peak of your film-making profession now. Are you planning to switch your area anymore?”

Sankar replied with a big 'YES.' With a gleaming smile, he admitted that he always thinks of a time when he is no more making any movies. “I love to retire. There is a period for every filmmaker when he is at his peak. He conceives the best ideas and makes his best movies during that time. I think I am in that phase right now. I have a lot of new avenues to explore in my life after completing my film-making phase,” he said.

Sankar said that he would make films only as long as he enjoys doing it. Sankar remarked that he considers life a great blessing and he doesn't want to constrict it to a single profession. “I came into film industry to make just one movie, 'Passenger'. I didn't expect it would succeed at the box office. I had decided to quit the industry after its release and resume my old, techie life. Life had other plans for me. Ten years later, I am up with my 11th movie. I started off as a writer. Then I became a director. Now I am a producer. I also distribute movies..,” he said.

Sankar stated movies are only one part of him. “I have got more things to do in my life than movies. I would love to sit back without doing anything, travel around the world or own a small house in Paris, a city that astonished me with its fine romance,” he said.
