Jayaraj bows out of Nipah movie after Aashiq Abu's bid on similar theme

Malayalam film director Jayaraj has abandoned his planned film project on the Nipah fever outbreak in the state following filmmaker Aashiq Abu's announcement of a movie on the same subject.

After the movie 'Bhayanakam' Jayaraj had announced the project on Nipah as part of his series on 'Navarasas'.

Speaking exclusively to Onmanorama, Jayaraj said, "The film on Nipah was planned on the theme of 'roudram'. Now that director Aashiq Abu has announced a film on the subject, I'm withdrawing from the movie on the epidemic."

The national award-winner said that he was disbanding the project in a goodwill gesture to avoid a clash. On his next move, he said, "I haven't planned as yet. But I have some subjects on mind and will be coming up with one of them soon".

Kerala, especially its Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, was caught in the Nipah scare in May after more than a dozen people died after contracting the virus. Global bodies like the United Nations and World Health Organisation later lauded the state for successfully containing the disease.
