Recently released 'Lilli' starring Samyuka Menon is running into packed theatres, garnering positive reviews from all corners. The ‘Theevandi’ actress plays the title role of a heavily pregnant Lilli in this survival thriller. In an interview, Samyukta opened up about the character and her experiences of playing the role of an expectant mother.
“It indeed was challenging to essay the role of a heavily pregnant woman. I had visited the maternity ward of a hospital to understand their body language. I watched and learned the particular way in which a pregnant woman walks or bends. I noticed that most of them had swollen feet and increased body temperature. All these helped me to essay the character realistically,” says Samyukta.
The actress confesses that she struggled to get out of the character even after the filming got over. “I was injured many times while shooting and there were cuts on my body. Most of the crew members were down with flu. I had to attend counseling sessions to come out the character. Besides, I chopped off my hair to alter my look as I wanted a sudden change,” narrates the actress.
Samyukta acted for 21 days wearing the same costume to ensure continuity of scenes. The costume was made to look dirty with blood stains, mud and silt.
“Chocolate, grape juice and some other articles were used to make blood stains appear on the dress. It began to smell horrible after 10 days of filming in the same costume. I had itching and other irritations on skin. Later I had to seek treatment for skin ailments as I had worn the same dirty clothes continuously for weeks,” says Samyukta.
