Kozhikode: Noted Malayalam writer MT Vasudevan Nair wants to dissociate with an ambitious project to make a movie out of his celebrated mythological novel, 'Randamoozham'. The writer and scenarist has approached the munsiff court in Kozhikode to get back the rights to the script as the contract with director Sreekumar Menon expired. He also offered to return the advance payment he received from the director four years ago.

The court is likely to take up the petition on Thursday. MT has spent as much time in writing the script as the years he spent in materialising the novel. The writer is peeved at the inordinate delay in starting the film project.

MT signed a contract with Sreekumar Menon four years ago. He wrote screenplays in English and Malayalam on a condition that shooting would start within three years. The writer waited for another year before seeking legal remedies.

The movie, titled 'Mahabharata', was touted to be the most expensive in India. With a budget of Rs 1,000 crore, the two-part project had Mohanlal in the lead role of Bheeman.

Producer B R Shetty had said that the shooting would start in July 2019 and it would be the biggest production in Asia. He said that the pre-production works were in their final stage and the cast includes celebrated actors from world cinema. The second part was to be released four months after the first one.
