Denied opportunities, isolated in industry; Parvathy opens up
People are being banned from even talking to us. We are scared for our lives and the lives of our parents as well, Parvathy said.

Award winning actress Parvathy revealed that there has been a significant drop in the number of roles that are being offered to her ever since she became a founding member of the Women in Cinema Collective. She added that many women artists refuse to speak out against assaults and atrocities fearing such exclusions. Parvathy revealed that they have been isolated by the fraternity since they became associated with the women’s organization. “People are being banned from even talking to us. We are scared for our lives and the lives of our parents as well. Our houses may be burned down if we open our mouths,” she said in an interview.

The actress stated that all her movies which released in the last 4 years have been super hits with most of them running continuously in the theaters for months. However, Parvathy added that she has been offered just one role in a movie in the recent past. Her mother too thinks that she should have pursued an MBA degree instead of taking up movies.

Parvathy points out that there are many producers and production houses in Bollywood who assure that the actresses who open up about sexual assaults wouldn’t lose opportunities. However, there aren’t any such assurances in the Malayalam industry, notes Parvathy.

“On papers, Kerala is a state which upholds the modern values. However, it indeed is a saddening fact that people have blind idol worship here,” Parvathy told a private news portal. The actress added that the fans associations in Kerala have turned into groups of goons who don’t hesitate to indulge in cyber attacks or issue death and rape threats.
