Tollywood, one of the biggest film industries in the world, somehow, has not given Telugu girls their due. Known for sleezy, weird and ludicrous flicks full of raunchy, double meaning songs and blatant skin show of heroines coupled with gravity denying stunts, Telugu filmdom has always picturized female characters as objects of pleasure, barring a very few movies.
It is hard to find a heroine of Telugu origin in Tollywood films. Leading ladies are either from north or from other south Indian States.
Upcoming star Easha Rebba is an exemption. This Warangal-born Hyderabad-bred pinup has made her presence felt in movies including her debut 'Andakku Mundu Aa Tharvatha', 'Bandipotu', 'Ami Tumi' and 'Awe'. Her latest flick 'Subrahmanyapuram' is hitting the screens on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on the eve of the release of her film on Thursday, Eesha however underplayed the allegations. “It is not right to say that Telugu girls do not get opportunities in Tollywood. Taxiwala heroine Priyanka Jawalkar, though of Marathi origin, is from Andhra Pradesh,” Eesha said.
Easha is playing opposite Sumanth in the supernatural thriller being directed by newcomer Santhosh Jagarlamudi and produced by Dheeraj Boggaram and Beeram Sudhakar Reddy.
However, Eesha has more reasons to celebrate. She has been signed by noted director Trivikram Srinivas in his upcoming Jr NTR-starrer 'Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava'. “Though my role in the film is insignificant, I have agreed to do it because of NTR and Trivikram Srinivas. I liked the role too. “
Regarding rumours about her being part of SS Rajamouli’s 'RRR', she said, “Everyone says I have got a chance in 'RRR'. If it’s true, I would be the happiest soul on earth."
