But life may be not as easy for everyone like Bobby and Babymol who come together happily. Love stories can be painful and equally depressing too.
Yet another Valentine's Day is here! While 'true love' is not out of fashion and fresh love stories are always welcomed, we pick 8 movies that might make you sad but will make you realise that true love do exist. We are sure after watching these movies you might have asked 'why' and we ask 'why not' as such stories go down in the list of classics:
Chemmeen
The story in this award-winning film is about the enduring love. The 1965 classic revolved around the romance of Karuthamma, who is from a poor Hindu fisher family, with Muslim trader Pareekutty. Madhu portrayed the role of tragic hero, while Sheela stood as the sacrificial lover. The romance between two people belonging to different communities and religions is still explored and 'Chemmeen' is the best on this theme. Love remains unfulfilled when its hard to break the social traditions.
Ennennum Kannettante
The 1986 teenage love story was made by director Fazil, known as the 'kingmaker of romance'. Youngsters and cousins Kannan and Radhika fall for each other but even before they confess it to each other, they part their ways. Kannan runs to the railway station but he never get to see the searching eyes of Radhika and both of them are left heartbroken and the movie ends. The love, when not expressed at the right time will leave you heartbroken.
Thalavattam
Director Priyadarshan's 1986 movie 'Thalavattam' begins all colourful but ends in a black and white tone. It's pure love that Dr Savithri uses to treat Vinod. And when that love is taken away by someone else, life seems to loose out on the mental equation. After falling for each other, Savithri learns that Vinod has been killed after being incapacitated. The movie ends by showing that Savithri takes the place of Vinod (who was unsound) and gets admitted in the same hospital run by her father. Sometimes, love when not gained can make a person go crazy and insane.
Vandanam
Although this yet another Priyadarshan flick had a thriller plot, there was a strong love story attached. While Unnikrishnan was on the hunt to nab convict Prof Kurian Fernandez, he happens to meet his daughter Gaadha who he thinks will be helpful to reach his target. Eventually, Unni and Gaadha fall in love but the latter fails to join him. She is left with no other choice than to leave for London. As the painful parting occurs, both of them even came so close literally on the road momentarily, but as the signal turns green, both move in opposite directions. Yes, if fate has something else, love will leave in fraction of seconds, like how the duo fail to meet in a split of time.
Kaala Pani
Although this 1996 Priyadarshan flick remind you of patriotism, it can also teach a lot about love as the saying goes, 'love is patient and love is kind'. After being in love for sometime, Govardhan marries Parvathi in a small ceremony. And soon comes the police to arrest him. There comes a point when we get a ray of hope that Govardhan will be released because of the effort that Len Hutton has taken after listening to Parvathi and Govardhan's love story. But never. Parvath waits for him patiently even 45 years after Govardhan's death! She never comes to know that he was hanged. As the movie ends we seem to ask will she wait further or does she know even know that he won't come back? Well, love fails because destiny turns too harsh sometimes.
Kastooriman
Love gives rises to testing times. And for Sajan and Priyamvada in the 2003 story, there was never peace in their lives until they found each other. They help and find strength in each other whenever they face a bad time. But things take a turn when Priyamvada is sent to jail for a term of 9 years. Although we are not shown if they actually reunite or not, Sajan's dialogue reminds us of his unfulfilled love in life. “She might be in jail but she's in me always and that's more than enough,” he says and filmmaker Lohitadas leaves us wishing for more.
Annayum Rasoolum
Switch to 2013 and we can find Anna and Rasool. 'Annayum Rasoolum' is one of finest love stories of recent times that revolves around the relationship between a young Muslim taxi driver and a Latin Christian girl. Though the duo never openly express their love, they just realise that they are in love with each other. With a dream to lead a life together, they elope. But twist comes when Anna is left with no other option than to end her life and no it wasn't because of Rasool for he never got a chance even to explain. Sometimes love makes you a strong person and you will realise one has to move on. It may pick up but the presence of the lost loved one could be seen around you if you close your eyes just like Rasool had visions of Anna underneath the water while closing his eyes.
Ennu Ninte Moideen
The 2015 flick was based on the real-life story of BP Moideen and Kanchanamala. Yet another inter-religious love tale, this couple braved opposition and decided to get married. However, a tragic death awaited Moideen and Kanchanamala decides to commit suicide. But then, she is stopped by Moideen's mother who takes her to her lover's home as his wife, and she remains there as Moideen's unmarried widow. She loves him so much that she lives in his memory. If that is not love, then what is it!
