On V-Day, check out Mollywood's all-time favourite Valentines

You tell any story and romance can't stay away. Along with a well-written love story, all love stories have beautifully crafted characters. While stories give life to such characters, sometimes our memories about the on-screen couples are etched into our hearts. If we fall in love with movies on such themes it may be because of the characters who fall head-over-heels with each other in them. And love stories are not just about falling for each other but also how well lovers overcome testing times. On the occasion of Valentine's Day, here's a look into five such pairs:

Unnikrishnan and Thulasi

Film: Yathra

Year: 1985

Cast: Mammootty and Shobana

Unnikrishnan and Thulasi fall in love but are separated by destiny. He is sent to jail and during those days, he asks her to forget him. After he's freed from jail, he is nervous and confused. Is Thulasi fine? Does she still wait for him? Does she love him? And the answer comes when the duo hug each other crying in each others arms.

Solomon and Sofia

Film: Namukku Parkkan Munthirithoppukal

Year: 1986

Cast: Mohanlal and Shari

This is one of the most beautiful love stories in Malayalam cinema. It revolves around a guy who falls in love with the newly moved neighbour girl. Right from the proposal scene, to the tragic end and moving climax, the film is packed with warmth and goodness. There's a scene where Solomon asks Sofia, 'why didn't you come out even after hearing the horn' and cuts to Sofia who replies, 'I thought you won't come'. And there smiles Anthony, Solomon's cousin and Sofia's mother summing up the reaction of viewers – happily ever after.

Rajeevan and Anupama

Film: Irattakuttikalude Achan

Year: 1997

Cast: Jayaram and Manju Warrier

Rajeevan and Anupama fall in love and decide to elope. They get married and begin their new life. Everything goes smoothly until their little bundle of joy arrives. Just like there are troubles in every family, they too have their share. Rajeevan tries to clear up things he did. Anupama initially does not forgive but eventually gives in as a family needs to forgive and forget for happiness.

Sudhish and Mini

Film: Aniyathipraavu

Year: 1997

Cast: Kunchacko Boban and Shalini

One of the most adorable onscreen couples, Kunchacko Bobban and Shalini are often remembered with this film. Just like a usual love story, both fall in love and elope until they realise that they can't leave their families and they return. While the families feel indebted to their children, they realise that they can't separate the love that Sudhish and Mini have for each other. Hence after facing much hardships they unite happily.

Anand and Aishwarya

Film: Eeda

Year: 2018

Cast: Shane Nigam and Nimisha Sajayan

Anand and Aishwarya belong to rival political families. They meet and fall in love in the new-generation way through Facebook and WhatsApp. Both are different in their own ways but what they have in common is their dislike for violence. It's the climax that is more beautiful- there's a hope but how long they are not aware. They have dreams but they don't know what happens next and no we don't want to believe that Anand is dead.
