The jury members for the 49th Kerala State Film Awards have been announced. Veteran film director and screenwriter Kumar Shahani, who is famed for the 1972 movie 'Maya Darpan', will be the jury chairman in the film category. P K Pokker will be the chairman of the literary section.

Sherry Govindan, George Joseph, K G Jayan, Mohandas, Vijayakrishnan, Biju Sukumaran, Berny-Ignatius and Navya Nair will be among the jury members in film category.

Dr Jinesh Kumar Eramom and Saritha Varma will be the members in the literary category. State film award secretary Mahesh Panju will be a member in both the categories.

Shahani, 78, is known also for art films, 'Khayal Gatha' and 'Kasba' aprt from 'Maya Darpan'.

Jury member Navya Nair is a yesteryear Malayalam film actress. Sibling duo Berny and Ignatius are popular music composers in the Malayalam film industry.

At the last year's awards, Indrans won the honour for best actor, while Parvathy was honoured with the best actress laurel. 'Ottamuri Velicham' was adjudged the best film released in 2017.

The Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala, bestows the awards which were instituted in 1969. Over 30 awards in various categories await artistes judged the best by the jury.
