Douthyam
P Anil's 1989 movie 'Douthyam' is about Captain Roy Jacob, played by Mohanlal, and his mission to rescue his colleagues trapped inside a dense forest following the crash of an army aircraft. In the woods, Roy fights against a terrorist group and also aims to retrieve some important documents.
Nair Saab
Joshiy's 1989 movie 'Nair Saab' narrates the story of a new batch of trainees based at an army training center in Kashmir. Major Nair (Mammootty) plays their trainer who is known, rather feared, as a disciplinarian. Even though the movie begins with lighter comic scenes and how the training goes on, it later acquires a serious tone when the villain Kumar (Devan) buys out two guys from the batch and uses them for smuggling drugs from the neighbouring country. Things go out of hand when a new trainer joins ( Lalu Alex) and he turns out to be a close associate of the villain. The movie eventually shows how Mammootty's character spoils the plan of the traitors.
Kashmeeram
Rajeev Anchal's 1994 flick starts with NSG Officer Shyam (Suresh Gopi) arresting a terrorist nicknamed Jagmohan Pandey. Usha Varma (Sharada), the judge hearing the case, happens to be the sister of the Indian Home Secretary Rajan Varma (Lalu Alex). In retaliation to the arrest, the terrorists kill Usha's son Unni. Subsequently, the government provides Z-category protection for Justice Usha Varma and her family. The film shows how Shyam and his men secure her family and also neutralise militants for the larger good.
Sainyam
Joshiy's 1994 flick 'Sainyam' is a tribute to the Indian Air Force. The plot revolves around the life of IAF officer Group Captain Eashwar (Mammootty) who is associated with a project on the renovation of condemned aircraft. Meanwhile, there are terrorists/anti-nationals trying to steal the project secrets. How the hero and his team brave them form the crux of the story.
Keerthi Chakra
Directed by an army man himself Major Ravi's 'Keerthi Chakra' (2006) was a popular army movie in the recent past. Major Mahadevan, again played by Mohanlal, is assigned to counter-terrorism duties in Kashmir and commands an elite group of NSG commandos. The movie throws light on the lives of the soldiers, how their families are affected by war and the bond between commandoes. It also tell us how Mother India was important to the soldiers more than their lives.
Kurukshetra
'Kurukshetra', released in 2008, is a sequel to 'Keerthi Chakra'. Major Ravi narrates a story set in the backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War that India fought with Pakistan. The film poignantly portrays the loss of Indian lives on the battlefield. It also shows a beautiful love story within the force and a brave army nurse confronting the death of her husband.
