RIP J Mahendran: celebs pay condolences

Veteran Tamil filmmaker J Mahendran breathed his last on Tuesday in Chennai. With Mahendran's death Kollywood industry has not just lost an iconic director but also lost a talented actor and writer.

Celebs and fans are mourning the death of the legendary filmmaker.

AR Murugadoss took to twitter and paid his last respects to the director. He tweeted, "It is deeply saddening to hear the demise of one of the pioneer filmmakers #Mahendran sir. You and your films live forever in our hearts sir. Rest in peace."

Director Ahmed also tweeted, "Deeply saddened to hear this..RIP #Mahendran sir. Rest in peace."

“He spoke less and his films spoke more”, wrote cinematographer PC Sreeram.

Mahendran is regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of Tamil cinema and has influenced several directors of the subsequent generations. Many film buffs took to Twitter to mourn his death and offer condolences as soon as they heard the news about his demise.

Meanwhile, fans of actors Rajinikanth and Vijay paid tributes to Mahendran, by sharing the veteran filmmaker's rare and unseen pictures.

In 2014 Kollywood had lost K Balachander and Balu Mahendra, two of its great filmmakers of the last century.

Last year, Tamil film director C Sivakumar was found dead at his Chennai home under mysterious circumstances. Veteran film director CV Rajendran, 81, too passed away last year. Eminent filmmaker and producer Muktha Srinivasan, who made several films with yesteryear stars, also died in 2018. He was 88.
