Karthick Naren is back with 'Mafia' after row over 'Naragasooran'

Director Karthick Naren has announced his third film with actor Arun Vijay. Titled 'Mafia', the first look and title poster was revealed by the makers on social media and is gaining attention for two reasons.

One being his third directorial venture and another reason raising questions about his second project. Having made his directorial debut at the age of 22 with the critically and commercially successful thriller 'Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru', Karthick Naren's work was sought-after by many. The movie was a big hit in not just Tamil Nadu but in Kerala as well. The Malayalam audience, in fact, found a connect with actor Rahman who played the lead in the movie.

In August 2018, Karthick Naren announced his second film 'Naragasooran', a suspense drama featuring an ensemble cast of Arvind Swami, Indrajith, Shriya Saran, Sundeep Kishan and Aathmika. For Malayalam fans, it was amusing to see Malayalam actor Indrajith's name among the cast list. But the excitement subsided when a controversy cropped up between director Karthick and producer Gautham Vasudev Menon.

The film was initially produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon, and the two fell out sometime later. Karthick broke his silence in March 2018 with a series of tweets. He said he had to speak out because the team had run out of options. Karthick even accused Gautham of delaying the release of the project.

The director had made his first film with the money his father had taken on loan and all profits from that project were diverted to 'Naragasooran'.

By announcing his latest film 'Maa' it is indeed good to see Karthick move on but movie buffs are left curious to know what happened with Naragasooran. Has the movie been shelved?

Meanwhile, Arun Vijay will be seen in three get-ups for 'Mafia'. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the poster goes with the tagline, Chapter-1, hinting it is a film franchise. Prasanna will play the antagonist, while Priya Bhavani Shankar has been signed on as the female lead.

The movie will start rolling soon and reports state that it will be shot in 35 days.
