Suchitra recently shared pictures from a memorable reunion of yesteryear Malayalam actresses, including Menaka, Karthika, Vanitha, Chippy, Sreelekshmi, and Sona Nair. The gathering, which took place during her vacation from the US, was a heartwarming occasion for the group of actresses, affectionately known as the 'Lovelies of Trivandrum'. Speaking to Manorama Online, Suchitra opened up about the special meetup and her connection with the group.
“The WhatsApp group 'Lovelies of Trivandrum' was started two years ago, and I’ve been part of it from the beginning. However, being in the US, I usually miss their meetups. This is the first time I got to meet everyone in person since the group started, though the others meet occasionally. Whenever I visit Kerala, I make it a point to see them," Suchitra shared, expressing her joy in finally joining the reunion.
She went on to mention how she often meets with several of the actresses, including Chippy, Menaka Chechi, Sreelekshmi, Manju Pillai, Vinduja Menon, and Karthika Chechi, during her visits to Kerala. "Whenever I see Karthika Chechi, I jokingly tell her not to stay away from the limelight. Lately, she has become a bit more active," Suchitra added, reminiscing about her interactions with the group. She also recalled inviting everyone to her brother’s wedding, even before the official formation of the group.
As for her time in the US, Suchitra noted that Malayalam films are now widely available, especially in Dallas, Texas, where she lives, thanks to the large Malayali community there. "We even have a dedicated theatre for Malayalam movies, so I rarely miss out on new releases," she explained. During her current visit to Kerala, she plans to watch 'Rifle Club' and shared her excitement about the film. "I’ve known Vani Viswanath for years, and we’re good friends. I’ve heard she made a fantastic comeback with this film, so I don’t want to miss it before I return."
Suchitra expressed how pleased she was to hear that the younger generation is also applauding Vani’s performance in 'Rifle Club'. She also mentioned Unnimaya, another standout in the film, with whom she stays connected via Instagram. “She’s an amazing artist, and I’ve heard she’s brilliant in this film too. So, watching 'Rifle Club' is a must for me,” Suchitra concluded.
As her 15-day stay in Kerala nears its end, Suchitra shared her bittersweet feelings about heading back to the US in early January, cherishing the memories made during her short but special visit.
