Director Shafi in critical condition: Mammootty, colleagues reach hospital

Veteran actor Mammootty visited director-actor Shafi who is currently in critical condition at a private hospital in Kochi. Shafi best known for delivering superhits like 'Kalyanaraman' and 'Pulival Kalyanam', among others suffered a severe stroke recently following which, he was hospitalised. According to reports, the 56-year-old director underwent emergency brain surgery and is currently under intensive critical care.
Director B Unnikrishnan who addressed the media on Friday said Shafi was receiving the best treatment but his condition continued to remain critical. He also said Shafi's friends, colleagues and family are present at the hospital. Mammootty whose film 'Dominic and the Ladies' Purse' released recently was seen along with producers Anto Joseph and producer Renjith as they arrived at the hospital.
Shafi started his career in the mid-1990s by assisting director Rajasenan and the Rafi-Mecartin duo. His first film was 'One Man Show'. He later went on to direct a handful of superhit comedy films. Some of his notable films include Kalyanaraman (2002), Pulival Kalyanam (2003), Thommanum Makkalum (2005), Mayavi (2007), Chattambinadu (2009), and Two Countries (2015).
