'Deva' featuring Shahid Kapoor in the lead is picking up at the box office with the film registering over Rs 6.72 crore at the box office on the second day on Saturday. The film, however, opened to lower collections on the first day and only grossed Rs 5.7 crore as per PTI. This is reportedly lower than the first-day collections of Shahid Kapoor's previous film ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,' which had garnered over Rs 6 crore.

Produced by Roy Kapur Films in collaboration with Zee Studios, the action thriller movie made its debut in theatres across the country on Friday. "Bhasad toh abhi shuru huyi hai (the chaos has just begun)! #Deva in cinemas now, book your tickets," Zee Studios posted on Instagram, along with a banner, stating that the movie earned Rs 5.78 crore in net box office collection (NBOC) on the opening day.

The film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews, who is known for Malayalam blockbusters such as 'Notebook', 'Salute' and 'Kayamkulam Kochunni. This is Rosshan's Bollywood debut. In the movie, Kapoor is essaying the role of a brilliant but defiant police officer. It also stars Pooja Hegde in the role of a journalist. In a recent interview, Pooja spoke about her fascination for people in uniform. Actors Pavail Gulati and Kubbra Sait round out the cast of the film.

“I think a good film is a good film and you can't keep a good film down. Maybe it's the flavor of the season, I don't know. Like maybe it's the mysteriousness of what they do and, you know, we're fascinated by them.” She then mentioned how she has always been intrigued by people in uniform. “I've always been fascinated by people in uniform, you know, there's just something about it that is so intriguing and it's, it's always like you see someone in uniform and you always just want to emulate them or you, there is this mystery. So maybe that's why.”
