After a long wait and unexpected controversies, Janaki V vs State of Kerala is all set to release in theatres on July 17. The movie features Suresh Gopi as a lawyer who sets out to deliver justice for Janaki V, the protagonist played by Anupama Parameswaran. The fiery dialogues mouthed by Suresh Gopi in the trailer have generated quite a frenzy with many excited to see the veteran star in a fierce role reminiscent of the characters he has played in the past.
The film is a courtroom drama, which deals with a woman's quest for justice and her willingness to go the extra mile to make her voice heard. Suresh Gopi also holds the government accountable in one of the scenes in the movie as he thunders, 'The government must answer.'
Suresh Gopi's son Madhav will play a character opposite his father, marking their first collaboration. Sruthi Ramachandran, Divya Pillai, Askar Ali, and Baiju Santhosh, will also be seen in prominent roles. The film marks Anupama's return to Malayalam cinema after the 2021 film 'Kurup' headlined by Dulquer Salmaan.
'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' ran into trouble with the Censor Board, which demanded 96 cuts to the movie initially. The Board argued that Janaki, who faces sexual abuse, was an alternative name for goddess Sita. However, it later softened its stance and asked the makers to make only two changes to the film and include the character's surname in the title. The makers also altered a cross-examination scene in the movie where the name Janaki is openly mentioned.
