Film producers' association poll: Sandra Thomas in presidential run, arrives in purdah to submit nomination

Malayalam film producer Sandra Thomas, who is embroiled in a protracted dispute with the top leadership of the Kerala Film Producers' Association, arrived wearing a purdah to submit her nomination papers at the Kerala Producers Association office in Kochi on Saturday. Sandra is vying for the position of president in the producers' association. The actor-turned-producer stated that her choice of attire serves as a protest against the current leadership of the association.
Previously, Sandra filed a sexual harassment complaint against several top members, including the president and secretary, accusing them of inappropriate behaviour during a crucial meeting at the association office. She explained that wearing a purdah is the safest option for her in an environment where those accused of misconduct often remain in leadership roles.
"Women producers like me do not feel safe coming to the office here. For decades, the producers' association has been dominated by men, leaving little room for women in the industry. I want to change that. The producers' association must embrace change, which is impossible if the current leadership remains in power. They have undermined the association's potential to bring about positive changes in the industry. I will run in this year's elections for the president's post, and I have strong support in this endeavour," she said. Sandra also mentioned that she and a group of producers, including women, plan to contest as a panel in this year's elections. The association will participate in the polls on August 14, one day before the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) elections are scheduled to take place.
