AMMA elections: Vijay Babu advises Baburaj to withdraw nomination over sexual assault charges

Producer-actor Vijay Babu, who was compelled to resign from AMMA two years ago due to accusations of rape, has advised Baburaj to withdraw his nominations from this year's elections, as he is also facing charges of sexual assault too. Baburaj was named an accused in the Hema Committee report released in 2024, yet he is still contesting this year's AMMA elections for the position of general secretary. Despite protests against his nomination, Baburaj, who has been accused of sexual assault by a junior artist, has refused to step down.
Vijay suggested that Baburaj should not run for elections given that he has multiple cases against him. He emphasized that there are many talented individuals who are equally capable of leading AMMA, and it would not harm the organization if Baburaj decided to withdraw. "I stepped down when I faced allegations. Let him contest the elections when he is proven innocent. The association is more important than any individual. Don't take this personally. Let women take the leadership role this time at AMMA," he stated.
An upcoming actress in Mollywood had registered a complaint against Vijay Babu for allegedly raping her in the pretext of opportunities in Malayalam cinema.
